RAD offers legal defense resources and funding for providers delivering care in a post-Roe landscape.
The Abortion Provider Legal Defense Fund covers legal defense costs for independent healthcare providers facing legal action for allegedly providing reproductive healthcare services to people from, or in, restricted states in violation of an abortion ban or other abortion restriction.
RAD is part of the Abortion Defense Network, a collaborative effort by nonprofit organizations, private law firms, and government officials to connect abortion providers and supporters with values-aligned attorneys and legal defense funds for legal advice, representation, funding, and other legal resources (see below for more information).
As part of its work with the Abortion Defense Network, RAD acts as a “steward” for abortion providers. As steward, RAD strives to maintain an understanding of providers’ legal needs and concerns and assist providers by either connecting them to existing legal resources or creating new ones.
The Abortion Defense Network (ADN) connects abortion providers and supporters with values-aligned attorneys prepared to provide legal advice, representation in criminal and civil proceedings, and legal defense funds that cover attorney fees and other legal expenses. If you have a legal question or need legal representation, complete the contact form on the ADN website, and an attorney will contact you within 24 hours to schedule a call. Following that call, the attorney will connect you to a values-aligned legal organization or law firm to answer your question(s).
ADN also provides general legal resources, such as the "Know Your State’s Abortion Laws" guides.
ADN is managed by the Lawyering Project in partnership with Resources for Abortion Delivery, the American Civil Liberties Union, Center for Reproductive Rights, and National Women’s Law Center.
